Addis Ababa, November 13, 2025 (FMC) – The Ethiopian Air Force has a proud history of producing generations of heroes and defending the nation, Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, the Air Force Commander, said.
Speaking to residents of Adama City ahead of the Air Force’s 90th anniversary celebrations, Lt. Gen. Yilma highlighted the institution’s longstanding role in safeguarding Ethiopia’s sovereignty. He described the Air Force as a veteran aviation institution that has consistently contributed to the country’s defense and security.
“The Ethiopian Air Force has a proud history of upholding national sovereignty. This anniversary is not only a commemoration of our past achievements, but also an opportunity to demonstrate the readiness and capabilities we have developed,” Lt. Gen. Yilma said, calling on the community to celebrate the anniversary together.
Adama City Mayor Hailu Jelde praised the Ethiopian National Defense Force as the ultimate shield of the country and a source of pride for its people.
The city administration and residents are preparing to take part in the celebrations, he added.
The Air Force’s 90th anniversary will be observed under the theme “Ethiopian Air Force: A Symbol of Freedom and Unity” with an aviation exhibition, a panel discussion, the signature Black Lion Air Show, and other commemorative events.
