Ethiopian arts troupe embarks on global tour to boost cultural diplomacy, people-to-people ties

Addis Ababa, May 30, 2025 (FMC) – The Ministry of Culture and Sports (MoCS) has announced that the Ethiopian culture and arts delegation will embark on a global cultural tour aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties and promoting Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage.

Speaking to Fana Podcast, State Minister for Culture and Sports Nebiyu Baye said the multidisciplinary troupe includes around 70 members and will tour several countries — including Russia, Brazil, and Greece — to showcase Ethiopia’s cultural diversity, artistic excellence, values, and historical legacy through live performances and exhibitions.

According to the State Minister, the cultural tour is part of Ethiopia’s broader efforts to deepen mutual understanding with other nations and foster long-term people-to-people connections. He emphasized that such initiatives are central to the country’s cultural and artistic diplomacy strategy.

State Minister Nebiyu recalled a comparable cultural initiative undertaken in 1986, which aimed to enhance Ethiopia’s image on the global stage. He emphasized that the upcoming cultural diplomacy mission will similarly serve to present a contemporary and positive narrative of Ethiopia to international audiences.

He concluded by affirming that the international cultural engagements will continue, given their role in enhancing national image, promoting mutual respect, and building cultural bridges across borders.
