Addis Ababa, September 10, 2025 (FMC) – The Ethiopian athletics delegation has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, marking the country’s first contingent to participate in the 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships.
Upon landing at Narita International Airport, the team was warmly received by officials from the Ethiopian Embassy in Japan, highlighting the significance of Ethiopia’s presence at the prestigious global sporting event.
Ethiopian athletes are set to compete across a wide range of events for both men and women, including middle-distance races such as the 800 meters, long-distance events, and the marathon. The delegation aims to showcase Ethiopia’s enduring excellence in athletics on the world stage.
Scheduled from September 13 to 21, 2025, the championships will take place at Tokyo’s iconic Japan National Stadium and are expected to draw over 2,000 athletes representing nearly 200 countries. Competitors will vie for top honors across 49 track and field events, making it one of the most highly anticipated sporting gatherings of the year.
Ethiopia, renowned for its long-distance running legacy, looks forward to adding to its impressive medal tally and reinforcing its status as a powerhouse in global athletics.
