Addis Ababa, October 29, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopian Media Authority has granted a new broadcasting licence to the previously suspended Tigray Media Agency under the new name Tigray Broadcasting Corporation, following a request by the Tigray Regional State Interim Administration.
The authority said it had reviewed the request in accordance with the country’s media proclamation and determined that it was appropriate to issue the licence under the new name.
The agency’s previous broadcasting licence had been suspended after the authority’s monitoring and regulatory oversight found that it had disseminated content that violated the media proclamation, contradicted national interests, promoted extremism and endangered national and public security.
The authority also recalled that the Tigray Interim Administration had noted that the agency’s broadcasting service had served as an instrument for war and destructive missions, leading to the suspension of its licence.
According to the authority, the interim administration subsequently requested a new licence under the name Tigray Broadcasting Corporation, with the stated aim of contributing positively to peace and stability in the region and serving as a voice for the public.
After examining the application against the requirements of the media proclamation, the authority accepted the request and issued the new broadcasting licence.
The authority announced the decision and called on relevant stakeholders to provide the necessary cooperation to the newly licensed Tigray Broadcasting Corporation.
