Addis Ababa, October 12, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopian National Defence Force’s (ENDF) enduring heroism continues to uphold the honor of the national flag, Lieutenant General Achalu Shelleme, Head of the Defence Human Resources Management Main Department, said.
The 19th National Flag Day was commemorated at the Defence Headquarters in the presence of senior generals, officers and members of the armed forces.
In his message marking the occasion, Lieutenant General Achalu described the national flag as an enduring symbol of Ethiopian identity, secured through great sacrifice across generations.
He emphasized the flag’s special significance to the armed forces, noting that military personnel pledge to defend the country and its people before the national flag and celebrate the successful completion of their missions under its banner.
The lieutenant general also reaffirmed that efforts to strengthen the military’s capabilities through modern military technology would continue with a focus on safeguarding Ethiopia’s national interests and ensuring peace in the country and the wider region.
He further stated that the heroic ENDF continues to defeat historical adversaries seeking to challenge Ethiopia’s sovereignty and dishonor its national flag, upholding the legacy of victory through its enduring courage and sacrifice.
