Addis Ababa, March 30, 2026 (FMC) — The International Peace Support Training Institute (IPSTI) of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) has received recognition and support from international partners to enhance its role in global peacekeeping.
A formal agreement was signed between IPSTI and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), aimed at strengthening the capacity of Master’s degree students studying international peacekeeping.
Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Getu Taye, Commander of the Institute, said the support will directly contribute to developing skilled professionals for Ethiopia’s peacekeeping missions.
UNDP Resident Representative in Ethiopia, Samuel Gbaydee Doe, praised Ethiopia’s consistent and reliable participation in international peacekeeping operations since 1951.
He emphasized that the Ethiopian army is widely respected for its ethics and perseverance, and highlighted that “peace and development are inseparable,” noting that the support reflects a commitment to reinforcing African leadership in peacekeeping missions.
Highlighting ongoing international cooperation, Colonel Oura Tsutomu, Military Attaché of the Japanese Embassy in Ethiopia, recalled Japan’s previous financial and technical assistance to the Institute in collaboration with the UN and the African Union.
He added that Japan will continue its efforts in partnership with the Ethiopian Ministry of Defense to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the training programs.
The agreement and accompanying support aim to develop the next generation of peacekeeping professionals, ensuring Ethiopia continues to uphold its reputation as a key contributor to international missions known for discipline, professionalism, and dedication, ENDF online media team told Fana Media Corporation.
