Addis Ababa, August 17, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian peacekeepers deployed as part of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) are demonstrating strong military readiness, discipline and morale while effectively carrying out their peacekeeping responsibilities in Sector 4, the sector commander said.
Sector 4 Commander Col. Wondimu Nemomsa said the Ethiopian contingent has continued to discharge its continental peacekeeping mission and national responsibility with strong morale, military preparedness and discipline, describing its performance as a valuable experience for future deployments.
He said the sector staff, as well as motorized and mechanized units, have carried out their assignments with a high degree of vigilance and have achieved reliable results in fulfilling their duties.
Col. Wondimu said Ethiopia’s longstanding reputation in peacekeeping has been built through the dedication and resilience of its troops across missions such as the current deployment. He noted that the troops have continued to confront operational challenges with composure, remaining steadfast in their duties despite changing weather conditions and other demanding circumstances.
The commander said the contingent’s sustained performance demonstrates the professionalism, readiness and resilience that have long characterized Ethiopia’s contribution to peacekeeping missions.
He added that the experience gained through the current mission will provide valuable lessons for the effective execution of future assignments.
