Addis Ababa, September 29, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia at Bole International Airport this morning, as the two neighbouring countries continue to build on longstanding relations and expanding high-level engagement.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s latest arrival marks another high-level interaction between the leaders this year. He was also in Ethiopia in January for the inauguration of the Aysha-II Wind Power Project and in February for the 39th African Union Summit, while Prime Minister Abiy and the Somali President held bilateral discussions in Addis Ababa in June on economic ties, security and regional stability.
The repeated high-level engagement underscores the longstanding ties between Ethiopia and Somalia and the continued efforts by the two countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance shared interests in the Horn of Africa.
The two neighbouring countries maintain deep historical, cultural and people-to-people bonds, alongside shared interests in peace, security, economic cooperation and regional development.
The Office of the Prime Minister has not provided further details regarding the current visit.
