PM Abiy Ahmed and Mozambican President Daniel Chapo Discuss Stronger Cooperation Ahead of Tana Forum

Addis Ababa, October 24, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Mozambique have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance shared interests as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed Mozambican President Daniel Chapo ahead of the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa.

In a social media post following their meeting, Abiy described the reception as a pleasure and confirmed that the two leaders held bilateral talks focused on enhancing cooperation between their countries.

The engagement comes as African leaders convene in Bahir Dar for the Tana Forum, a continental platform for dialogue on peace and security challenges and African-led approaches to addressing them.

This year’s forum is being held under the theme “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation,” linking the continent’s security priorities with broader questions of economic independence and its changing place in global affairs.

The meeting between Abiy and Chapo adds a bilateral dimension to the gathering, providing an opportunity for the two countries to discuss common priorities alongside the wider continental deliberations.
