Ethiopian top diplomat calls for stronger multilateral cooperation at BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Addis Ababa, May 14, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, is taking part in the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting underway in New Delhi, India, from May 14–15, 2026.

The meeting is being held under India’s BRICS Chairship with the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”

Addressing the high-level gathering, Foreign Minister Gedion stressed the urgent need for coordinated multilateral efforts to build a global order that serves all nations equitably.

He noted that the current global crisis, unless addressed urgently, could lead to severe economic and financial repercussions as well as social instability extending beyond national borders.

The minister further emphasized that BRICS must play an instrumental role in advancing peace and championing collective security and development as the foundation of a just and stable international system.
