Addis Ababa, August 3, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopians’ collective efforts through the Green Legacy Initiative are building a lasting environmental legacy for current and future generations.
The Prime Minister made the remarks after planting seedlings as part of the ongoing nationwide one-day Green Legacy planting campaign alongside First Lady Zinash Tayachew and members of the COP32 National Steering Committee.
Prime Minister Abiy said the Green Legacy Initiative has continued to grow stronger over the past eight years through public commitment and a shared belief that Ethiopians can work together to nurture a greener and more sustainable future.
He noted that the annual nationwide one-day planting effort brings together Ethiopians from all walks of life to contribute to creating a lasting legacy for generations to come.
The Prime Minister called on Ethiopians across the country to continue their participation throughout the day as the country works to achieve the target of planting 800 million seedlings during the campaign.
He emphasized that the collective action of citizens remains central to advancing Ethiopia’s green development journey and strengthening the vision of a sustainable future.
