Addis Ababa, October 16, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia is positioning itself as an increasingly important investment destination and financial market in Africa, driven by economic reforms and expanding cross-border investment partnerships, Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives Ahmed Shide said.
He made the remarks at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery initial public offering (IPO) investor roadshow in Ethiopia, organized by the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) in partnership with Dangote Industries Limited in Addis Ababa.
Speaking at the event, Ahmed said Ethiopia’s economic reforms are opening up opportunities for domestic and international investors while strengthening Africa’s capacity to finance its own development.
“With an expanding economy, ongoing reforms, and a growing private sector, we envision Ethiopia becoming an increasingly important investment destination and financial market in Africa,” he said.
The establishment of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority, the Ethiopian Securities Exchange and supporting market infrastructure marks a significant step in modernizing the country’s financial system and mobilizing long-term capital.
“Ethiopia’s emerging capital market presents significant opportunities for domestic and international investors, financial institutions, and businesses,” the Speaker said.
Introducing the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO to qualified Ethiopian investors, he noted, demonstrates the potential for African businesses and investors to engage across national borders.
He also emphasized that investor confidence, transparency, regulatory cooperation and robust investor protection are essential to building credible and sustainable capital markets, particularly as securities offerings increasingly cross national borders.
The Speaker welcomed international businesses and financial institutions to participate in Ethiopia’s economic transformation and capital market development.
Meanwhile, Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote reaffirmed the group’s commitment to expanding its investments in Ethiopia, expressing confidence in the country’s economic prospects and the potential for a long-term partnership.
“Our investment in Ethiopia has no limit,” Dangote said, adding that the group would reinvest its earnings locally and bring additional investment to support the country’s economic transformation.
“Our partnership in Ethiopia is a very harmonious partnership. It’s not that we want to come and make money and take the money outside, no. Whatever that we make here, not only that we invest, we’ll bring more investment,” he said.
