Addis Ababa, September 28, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has brought home another 1,273 nationals from Saudi Arabia, extending a sustained national effort to protect the welfare and dignity of citizens who have faced difficult circumstances abroad.
The latest returnees comprise 1,108 men, 163 women and two children, with the group also including 49 adolescents under the age of 18, according to the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.
Upon arrival, the returnees have been receiving appropriate support and care at the airport and temporary accommodation centers, alongside efforts to reunite them with their families, the Ministry said.
The latest repatriation adds to an extensive operation launched on September 15, 2025, to facilitate the return of Ethiopians facing difficult circumstances in Saudi Arabia. More than 104,000 Ethiopian nationals have so far been brought back to the country through the ongoing effort.
The continued scale of the operation underscores Ethiopia’s citizen-centered diplomatic approach, through which the protection and welfare of Ethiopians abroad remain an important dimension of the country’s diplomatic engagement and national responsibility.
