Addis Ababa, June 27, 2026 (FMC)_ Science and technology graduates have been urged to translate their academic knowledge into innovation and practical solutions to advance Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda.
The call was made during the 12th graduation ceremony of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, where 1,246 students graduated with undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD qualifications in regular and extension programs.
Director General of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA) and Board Chair of the university, Tigist Hamid, underscored the need to strengthen the pipeline of science and technology professionals capable of driving Ethiopia’s digital ambitions.
She emphasized that the country’s digital journey depends on innovation-driven graduates who can convert knowledge into industrial productivity and practical technological solutions, while maintaining integrity in public service.
State Minister of Education Ayelech Eshete said that extensive efforts have been undertaken in recent years to expand access to education across Ethiopia. She noted, however, that equal emphasis must now be placed on improving quality in order to achieve the country’s broader education objectives.
The State Minister highlighted ongoing reforms focused on strengthening quality assurance in general education and developing a competent, research-oriented generation. She said these reforms are already yielding tangible results, particularly in science and technology education.
Addis Ababa Science and Technology University President Dereje Engida said the institution continues to play a growing role in supporting Ethiopia’s development agenda.
He noted that the university is promoting technology transfer and encouraging practical innovation and problem-solving research, efforts which are enhancing its global competitiveness and strengthening its contribution to national priorities.
