Ethiopia’s Largest Ever Tech Expo ETEX 2025 Opens in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, May 16, 2025 (FMC) – ETEX 2025, the largest technology expo and conference ever held in Ethiopia, officially opened today in Addis Ababa, bringing together global industry leaders, innovators, policymakers, and investors under one roof.

Co-organized by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), the three-day event is taking place at the Addis International Convention Center (AICC) from May 16–18.

In his opening remarks at the event, the FDRE President Taye Atske-Selassie reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to digital transformation, innovation, and Africa-led progress.

ETEX 2025 serves as a premier platform to showcase Ethiopia’s rapidly evolving digital landscape and to foster global partnerships. The expo highlights major advancements in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, smart cities, fintech, and digital education—sectors that are transforming the country’s economy under the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy and the broader framework of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

With Ethiopia’s IT services market projected to reach $2.44 billion by the end of the year, the country is fast emerging as a regional tech hub. Cybersecurity, in particular, now accounts for 40% of market revenue, with 70% of organizations identifying data and application security as a top priority.

The country’s digital transformation is supported by robust economic reforms and international confidence, including the recent $248 million IMF disbursement under a $3.4 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF).

Recently speaking on Ethiopia’s digital progress, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated: “We have made significant strides as a nation since embarking on our digital journey. To thrive in the digital economy, we must support innovators and build strong digital enablers. We aim to position Ethiopia as a leader in Africa’s digital economy, encouraging global partnerships and empowering our youth to drive the digital revolution.”

Dr. Worku Gachena, Director General of EAII, emphasized that: “ETEX 2025 will showcase Ethiopia’s tech-driven transformation, highlighting our progress in AI, cybersecurity, smart cities, and innovation. This expo will catalyze global cooperation and position Ethiopia at the forefront of Africa’s digital future. Programs like the 5 Million Coder Initiative will be central—empowering millions with the skills to thrive in the digital age.”

As the event unfolds, ETEX 2025 is expected to lay a strong foundation for future collaborations, investments, and innovations in Ethiopia’s growing tech ecosystem.
