Addis Ababa, October 7, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed presided over the 7th Annual Loyal Taxpayers Recognition Ceremony, celebrating citizens and businesses who consistently uphold their civic duty through timely tax payments.
The annual event, first launched by the Prime Minister himself in 2018, recognizes taxpayers whose commitment strengthens Ethiopia’s fiscal foundation and supports national development priorities. This year, 700 exemplary taxpayers were honored for their contributions during the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year. The honorees included 105 Platinum-level, 245 Gold-level, and 350 Silver-level taxpayers, whose collective efforts contributed to a total national tax collection of 900.22 billion Birr.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister emphasized that loyal taxpayers are indispensable partners in building a self-reliant economy and delivering essential public goods and infrastructure.
As part of efforts to modernize and streamline the revenue system, the Ministry of Revenue and the Customs Commission also inaugurated a suite of new digital platforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability in tax and customs administration. The systems include the Electronic Receipts Administration System, Electronic Clearance System, Electronic Customs Management System, and Electronic Cargo Tracking System.
The introduction of these systems is expected to further strengthen the country’s digital transformation agenda and enhance service delivery for taxpayers nationwide.
