Ethiopia’s Resilience Tested by History, Forged Through National Struggle and Renewal

Addis Ababa, September 8, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has demonstrated resilience by overcoming major challenges and advancing key national milestones, Speaker of the House of Federation Agegnehu Teshager said.

The Speaker made the remarks as security and defense institutions marked Pagume 3, the Day of Resilience, under the theme “Resilience for Ethiopia’s Renewal” at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum.

The observance highlighted the activities of the Ethiopian National Defense Force, Ethiopian Federal Police, National Intelligence and Security Service, Information Network Security Administration and Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.

Agegnehu said Ethiopia’s diplomatic efforts to secure access to the sea also reflect the country’s journey of resilience.

He cited the successful conduct of the seventh general election, the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and the conclusion of the national dialogue process as further manifestations of Ethiopians’ resilience.

He stressed the importance of maintaining strong national unity, building broad national consensus and strengthening social cohesion to overcome challenges that could hinder the country’s development and prosperity.

The Speaker also underscored the responsibility of the younger generation to safeguard the country inherited through the sacrifices of previous generations and pass it on to future generations.
