Addis Ababa, June 3, 2026 (FMC) — The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Ethiopia, together with the diplomatic missions of EU member states and partner countries, has welcomed the conduct of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election held on June 1, 2026.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the EU Delegation and the diplomatic missions of 22 EU member states, alongside Canada, Norway, and Switzerland, commended the efforts of institutions and stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
The statement specifically acknowledged the contributions of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), election workers, political parties, candidates, and civil society organizations in facilitating the nationwide vote.
The diplomatic missions also recognized the role played by the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which deployed election observation missions to monitor the electoral process across the country.
The group said it looks forward to the findings and assessments to be presented by the two regional organizations following their observation activities.
The statement further expressed hope that constituencies unable to conduct voting on June 1 would be given the opportunity to hold elections at a later date.
The remarks come as Ethiopia continues post-election processes, including vote counting, verification, and result aggregation, following the completion of nationwide voting on Monday.
The election drew participation from millions of registered voters across the country and was observed by domestic and international monitoring missions. Electoral authorities are continuing post-voting procedures ahead of the announcement of official results.
