Addis Ababa, May 10, 2026 (FMC) — FIFA President Gianni Infantino has extended his best wishes to Iran’s national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reaffirming the country’s participation in the tournament amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
In a message shared on Sunday, Infantino wished “the very best” to Iran as the national team prepares for its World Cup campaign. The remarks were circulated through social media and regional media outlets.
The message comes as discussions continue over logistical and political concerns surrounding Iran’s participation in the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Infantino has previously reiterated FIFA’s position that Iran will take part in the 2026 World Cup despite ongoing diplomatic and security-related concerns involving travel arrangements and hosting conditions.
Iranian football authorities have reportedly sought additional assurances regarding the treatment of players, officials, and supporters during the tournament.
