First-Ever Children’s Museum in Ethiopia Set to Open in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 25, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia and the Czech Republic have formalized an agreement to establish the country’s first-ever Children’s Museum in Addis Ababa.

The signing took place in Prague today, with Ethiopia’s Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa joining officials from the Czech National Museum and the Czech Development Agency to endorse the landmark initiative.

The agreement sets the stage for the creation of a modern, permanent museum dedicated to children, with financial and technical support from the Czech government. The museum will be situated within Friendship Park No. 2 in Addis Ababa, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Minister Selamawit noted that the museum will serve as a platform for children to engage with Ethiopia’s rich history and cultural heritage, while fostering creativity, learning, and intellectual growth. She also expressed her sincere appreciation to the Czech government for its support in making the project a reality.

Officials emphasized that the museum will play a key role in helping children explore Ethiopia’s tourism resources from a young age, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to the country’s tourism development in the years ahead.
