Addis Ababa, May 5, 2025 (FMC) — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos held talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, who arrived in Addis Ababa today on an official working visit leading a high-level trade delegation.
The two ministers discussed ways of further strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries and enhancing cooperation on regional issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Gedion said Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its cooperation with Israel, which has extensive experience in agriculture, in a bid to transform the sector to a higher level.
The two ministers discussed ways to further enhance the historical ties between Ethiopia and Israel in a range of areas, including health, education, technology and other sectors.
Minister Gedion further emphasized that terrorism is a shared threat and affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Israel in combating it.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, on his part, described Ethiopia as a key partner for Israel due to its position as a major gateway to Africa.
The Israeli Minister highlighted that this visit to Ethiopia marks the beginning of Israel’s engagement in Africa under his leadership.
He also expressed Israel’s commitment to further strengthen the historic and strong people-to-people relations with Ethiopia through expanded economic ties.
