Addis Ababa, February 9, 2026 (FMC) — Foreign ministers from ten African countries arrived in Addis Ababa on Monday to participate in the 39th African Union (AU) Summit, scheduled for February 14-15, following the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council on February 11-12.
The ministers arriving today include Phenyo Butale of Botswana; Kaba Nialé of Côte d’Ivoire; Selma Ashipala-Musavyi of Namibia; A. Murwira of Zimbabwe; Ambassador Akovi Martinien AmourMarie, Deputy Secretary General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Benin; George Thapatula Chaponda of Malawi; Edouard Bizimana of Burundi; Yusuf Maitama Tuggar of Nigeria; Mulambo Haimbe of Zambia; and Jean-Claude Gakosso of the Republic of Congo.
Upon their arrival at Bole International Airport, the dignitaries were warmly welcomed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.
The 39th AU Summit will take place on February 14-15, following the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council on February 11-12. The summit is being held under the theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
The summit will bring together African leaders to discuss sustainable water management, safe sanitation systems, and regional cooperation, as part of efforts to achieve the objectives of Agenda 2063.
