Addis Ababa, June 25, 2026 (FMC) — France has congratulated Ethiopia over the successful conduct of its 7th General Elections following the announcement of the official results by the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE).
In a statement, the French Embassy in Addis Ababa said France “would like to congratulate all newly elected members of Parliament as well as the Ethiopian authorities and stakeholders involved, including political parties, civil society organisations, observers and, most of all, the Ethiopian people for the organisation of the elections.”
The statement commended not only the newly elected lawmakers but also the broad range of actors who contributed to the electoral process, including political parties, civil society organizations, election observers, and the Ethiopian public.
France’s message adds to a growing number of congratulatory statements issued by international partners following the conclusion of Ethiopia’s electoral process and the announcement of the final results.
According to NEBE, the ruling Prosperity Party secured a parliamentary majority in the 7th General Elections, winning 438 seats and retaining its mandate to form the federal government.
The nationwide vote involved more than 54 million registered voters and was observed by domestic and international observers.
The election has been described by various stakeholders as one of Africa’s largest democratic exercises, reflecting Ethiopia’s continued efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and electoral processes.
