France Lauds Ethiopia’s Transformative Reform Journey, Pledges Stronger Partnership

Addis Ababa, September 28, 2025 (FMC) – France has hailed Ethiopia’s sweeping economic reforms, describing them as a transformative journey that is reshaping the country’s development path and strengthening its prospects for peace and prosperity.

France’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Alexis Lamek, commended the progress of Ethiopia’s Homegrown Economic Reform program, which has introduced wide-ranging changes including market liberalization, fiscal and monetary adjustments, debt restructuring, and efforts to improve the overall business environment.

“We are proud to accompany Ethiopia in this endeavor,” Ambassador Lamek said, reaffirming his country’s strong commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation. “We consider ourselves a close partner of Ethiopia and a close friend of the Ethiopian people,” he emphasized.

The Ambassador underscored France’s readiness to share its own experience in attracting investment, noting that France is now one of the most appealing destinations for global investors. He pointed out that this status was achieved through years of reform, and highlighted the importance of listening to the needs of companies to create the right conditions for job creation and economic growth.

“I hope there will be many French investors in this country,” he said, expressing optimism about Ethiopia’s future as a hub for investment, as reported by ENA.

Over the past six years, Ethiopia has undertaken significant reforms aimed at building a business-friendly environment, including liberalizing the telecom and trade sectors, opening the financial sector, and granting greater opportunities in logistics to foreign investors. These steps, supported by legal and administrative measures, have expanded opportunities for both domestic and international investors.

Ambassador Lamek praised Ethiopia’s determination to pursue reforms despite global and regional challenges, and reiterated that France will continue to stand alongside Ethiopia in its journey toward inclusive growth and sustainable development.
