Addis Ababa, July 15, 2026 (FMC) — #Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister and COP32 President-Designate, Gedion Timothewos, on Wednesday held talks with COP21 President Laurent Fabius of France, drawing on the legacy of the Paris Agreement as Ethiopia advances preparations to host the 32nd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32) next year.
According to the COP32 Ethiopia platform, Fabius shared his experience leading COP21, which culminated in the adoption of the Paris Agreement, a landmark global accord that continues to underpin international efforts to combat climate change.
The discussions focused on Ethiopia’s preparations for COP32 and explored lessons and insights from previous Conferences of the Parties (COPs) that could help ensure the successful delivery of the summit.
On the occasion, Gedion underscored the enduring importance of the Paris Agreement as the cornerstone of global climate action, stressing the need to translate global commitments into tangible measures to address the adverse impacts of climate change.
He also reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to delivering a transparent, inclusive and Party-driven COP32 process that strengthens trust in multilateralism.
The Foreign Minister further highlighted progress in Ethiopia’s preparations across key areas, including content and negotiations, logistics and operations, partnerships, media, and communications.
