From Success to Acceleration: Addis Ababa Eyes Stronger Growth After 95% Project Delivery

Addis Ababa, July 20, 2025 (FMC) — Addis Ababa City Administration successfully implemented 95 percent of its planned development projects for the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year, Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced during a performance review forum held over this weekend.

The mayor emphasized that the city’s development initiatives were closely aligned with community needs, resulting in widespread benefits across various sectors.

The review meeting also outlined the administration’s priorities for the 2018 fiscal year.

The high-level forum was attended by key officials including Speaker of the Addis Ababa City Council Buzena Alkedir, Prosperity Party Addis Ababa Branch Head Moges Balcha, and other senior members of the city leadership.

Mayor Adanech highlighted that beyond infrastructure development, her administration placed significant focus on market stabilization and reducing the cost of living by ensuring the steady availability of essential goods.

“In terms of job creation, we have exceeded our targets,” the mayor stated, adding that strong performance in revenue collection also contributed to the administration’s success.

She further pointed to the impact of the Ethiopian Industrial Movement, which she said has enhanced local production and productivity, reinforcing the city’s industrial base.

The mayor also praised the success of the corridor development initiative, which has improved the capital’s cleanliness, beautification, and livability — making Addis Ababa more welcoming for both residents and tourists.

While commending the progress made, Mayor Adanech underscored the need to sustain momentum. “Our accomplishments are commendable, but they are not sufficient. We must build on our progress and let the lessons learned shape our vision for the 2018 fiscal year,” she concluded, calling for continued commitment to the city’s transformation.
