Addis Ababa, July 23, 2026 (FMC) — Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has hailed Ethiopia as an enduring symbol of African freedom and unity, while commending the country’s continued development progress through initiatives such as the Green Legacy.
The remarks came during bilateral and multilateral discussions with Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh at Jubilee House in Accra on the sidelines of the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Health.
In a social media post following the meeting, Temesgen said President Mahama expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s historic role in advancing African freedom and unity, as well as the country’s ongoing national development efforts, including the flagship Green Legacy Initiative.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the two sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Ethiopia and Ghana, describing the relationship as one rooted in the shared ideals of Pan-Africanism and a common commitment to Africa’s unity and progress.
Temesgen noted that Ethiopia welcomed the completion of Ghana’s new Chancery building in Addis Ababa, describing it as a fitting symbol of the enduring diplomatic ties and growing partnership between the two countries.
The leaders also welcomed preparations for the 12th Tana Forum and commended the leadership of the Tana Forum Board for advancing dialogue on peace, security and Africa’s future.
Reaffirming Ethiopia’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Ghana, Temesgen said the two countries will continue working together to advance their shared African and global interests.
The meeting took place on the margins of the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Health in Accra, which has brought together African leaders and key stakeholders to strengthen continental cooperation on resilient health systems, sustainable health financing and universal health coverage.
