Global stakeholders to meet in Addis Ababa for 20th ILO Regional Conference this month

Addis Ababa, May 2, 2025 (FMC) — The 20th International Labour Organization (ILO) Regional Conference for Labour-Based Practitioners will take place from May 19 to 23, 2025, at the African Union Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Jointly hosted by the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), the Ethiopian Roads Administration (ERA), and the International Labour Organization (ILO), this prestigious event will centre on the theme: “Resilient Communities and Healthy Environment: The Employment-Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) Approach.”

The Regional Conference brings together global policymakers, planners, practitioners, and researchers to exchange ideas on policies and programs that promote decent jobs and sustainable livelihoods in Africa.

Ethiopia, which hosted the 17th ILO Regional Seminar in 2017, will again host the 20th edition from May 19 – 23, 2025 under the theme: “Resilient Communities and Healthy Environment: The EIIP Approach.

The 20th ILO Regional Conference speakers include, among others, ILO Director-General Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, Ethiopia’s Minister of Urban and Infrastructure Ms. Chaltu Sani, Minister of Labor and Skills Ms. Muferihat Kamil, Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ms. Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Planning and Development Ms. Fitsum Aseffa, ILO Africa Regional Director Ms. Fanfan Rwanyindo, Director of Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development Division at African Development Bank Group (AfDB) Dr. Martha Phiri.
