Addis Ababa, January 12, 2026 (FMC) — The Gondar City Administration announced that it has completed preparations to welcome both international and local guests who will be attending the Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany) celebrations in Gondar next week.
Deputy Mayor of Gondar City Administration, Chalachew Dagnaw, stated that extensive preparations have been underway to ensure a smooth reception and memorable experience for visitors coming to celebrate the festival.
He noted that the recent renovation of the historic Fasil Castles will make this year’s Timket celebration particularly special. In addition, other heritage sites across the city have been prepared to serve as visitor centers during the festivities.
The Deputy Mayor explained that the first phase of the corridor development project, centered around Fasil Castles, has significantly transformed the appearance of the city. He added that the second phase of the 15.5-kilometer corridor development will be completed rapidly in terms of scale, quality, and standard, and is scheduled to be inaugurated on the eve of Epiphany.
He emphasized that the corridor development represents a foundation for comprehensive urban transformation in Gondar and will further enhance the beauty and experience of this year’s Timket celebration. The city expects to host around 2 million guests for the festival.
He also stated that hotels and service-providing establishments in the city have finalized preparations to deliver quality services, and visitors have already begun arriving as the city completes its readiness for the celebration.
