Addis Ababa, June 28, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh said his country’s Green Legacy Initiative has fundamentally reshaped the country’s environmental future while strengthening its international climate profile.
In a message shared on social media today, the Deputy Prime Minister described the initiative as a clear demonstration of national transformation driven by collective action and the guiding philosophy of Medemer, emphasizing unity and shared purpose.
He noted that the Green Legacy has produced visible environmental changes across the country, including the greening of once-barren mountains, the revival of dried-up springs, and the gradual restoration of degraded landscapes.
According to Temesgen, the initiative goes beyond environmental restoration, serving as a strategic investment in climate resilience, food security, and long-term sustainable development.
He further stated that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the Green Legacy has evolved from a national vision into a globally recognized model for environmental action and climate engagement.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted its role in enhancing Ethiopia’s international standing on climate issues, noting that it has strengthened the country’s voice in global environmental diplomacy and contributed to its successful bid to host COP32.
He described the initiative as both a national movement and a long-term investment in future generations, calling on Ethiopians to continue planting, protecting, and responsibly managing natural resources.
“Every seed we plant today is an investment in tomorrow,” he said, urging sustained public commitment to the program.
The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed that the Green Legacy continues to represent a collective national effort to build a greener, more resilient Ethiopia.
