Gudaf’s blistering run shattered multiple benchmarks, setting a new Ethiopian national record, meeting record, and the world lead for 2025.
The reigning world champion’s display of speed and dominance reaffirmed her position as one of the greatest middle-distance runners in the world today.
The London Athletics Meet, part of the prestigious Wanda Diamond League series, witnessed one of the most electrifying mile races in recent history as Gudaf surged ahead of the competition in a commanding solo finish.
Ethiopia’s triumph in London extended beyond the mile. In the women’s 5000m, Medina Eisa claimed a strong victory in 14:30.57, closely followed by compatriot Fantaye Belayneh, who finished second in 14:30.90 — securing another 1–2 finish for Ethiopia in a major international event.
