Addis Ababa, September 9, 2025 (FMC) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has congratulated the Government and people of Ethiopia on the historic launch of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), describing the event as a milestone for the country and the region.
IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu, attended the inauguration alongside Heads of State and Government, noting that the project stands as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and Africa’s shared vision for sustainable growth.
In a statement, IGAD reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging such achievements as catalysts for regional integration, promoting cooperation among member states, boosting economic development, and securing a prosperous future across the Horn of Africa.
