Addis Ababa, July 21, 2026 (FMC) — The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Secretariat has brought together regional and international partners in a renewed effort to strengthen coordination and advance peace initiatives aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
The Secretariat held the third meeting of Special Envoys on Sudan with the support of the Government of Japan, convening Special Envoys and mediation partners to review progress, align strategies and enhance cooperation among actors engaged in Sudan peace efforts.
The meeting was opened by Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi and IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu, who underscored the importance of closer collaboration among regional and international stakeholders in supporting peace and stability in Sudan.
Participants discussed ways to deepen coordination among mediation actors and strengthen collective efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
IGAD reaffirmed its commitment to a coordinated, Africa-led approach to addressing the situation in Sudan, working closely with its Member States, the African Union, the United Nations and all stakeholders committed to achieving a peaceful and stable Sudan.
