Addis Ababa, August 29, 2026 (FMC) — The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has applauded Ethiopia’s ongoing reform efforts, saying the measures have significant potential to propel economic growth and advance the country’s broader development agenda.
The assessment was made during a wrap-up meeting between Ethiopia’s Ministry of Revenues and IMF representatives on the progress of the country’s reform agenda and areas of continued cooperation.
State Minister of Revenues Yasmin Wohabreb said Ethiopia is implementing key measures to sustain its reform agenda and strengthen overall economic growth.
She noted that the reforms are playing an important role in advancing sustainable development and improving the country’s performance across various sectors, adding that they are being implemented with strong leadership and support from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The Ministry of Revenues is undertaking a range of fundamental measures aimed at strengthening revenue collection and enhancing the country’s capacity to mobilize domestic resources, she said.
Rebecca Sparkman, IMF Deputy Division Chief for Revenue Administration, commended Ethiopia’s reform efforts, noting that the country’s national reform measures and plans have significant potential to contribute to economic growth and the wider development agenda.
She reaffirmed the IMF’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s reform efforts.
The meeting also reached an understanding on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Revenues and the IMF, enhancing domestic revenue mobilization and advancing sustainable economic growth.
