Joint parliamentary session to open today as President Taye presents 2018 E.C. priorities

Addis Ababa, October 6, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s bicameral parliament — the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation — will convene its joint session this afternoon, officially opening the fifth year of its tenure and marking the start of the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year.

In accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the joint opening of the two Houses takes place on the last Monday of the first month of the Ethiopian calendar year.

President Taye Atske-Selassie is scheduled to preside over the session and deliver an address outlining the federal government’s key policy directions and priorities for the year ahead.

Ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, religious leaders, and other invited guests are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
