Addis Ababa, February 28, 2026 (FMC) — The KIN Ethiopia Arts and Culture Troupe has traveled to Kenya to participate in the historic commemoration of the 130th anniversary of Adwa Victory Day — the first time the observance is being officially held outside Ethiopia.
The troupe staged a cultural showcase in Nairobi today, presenting performances that highlighted Ethiopia’s history, artistic heritage, and diverse cultural expressions. The event, attended by government officials and members of the diplomatic community, underscored the broader continental significance of the Victory of Adwa.
In a statement, State Minister for Culture and Sports, Nebiyu Baye, said the purpose of the visit is to celebrate Adwa not only as a defining national triumph for Ethiopia but also as a symbol of freedom and resistance for Africa at large.
He emphasized that this year’s commemoration carries particular historical weight, given that it marks the first official celebration of Adwa Victory Day beyond Ethiopia’s borders — reflecting the shared African legacy embodied in the 1896 victory.
As part of the program, KIN Ethiopia promoted key elements of Ethiopia’s cultural identity, including its globally renowned coffee heritage, traditional attire, cultural artifacts, and other hallmark expressions of the nation’s civilization.
Nebiyu further noted that KIN Ethiopia has consistently served as a cultural ambassador, showcasing Ethiopian art and heritage on international stages. Under the theme “KIN Ethiopia: Ethiopia Rising,” the troupe has previously performed at eight venues across China, Japan, and Russia as part of its global cultural outreach.
The Adwa Victory commemoration in Kenya also featured performances by various artists and circus groups, adding to the vibrancy and diversity of the celebration.
