Leaders of Ethiopia and Brazil Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Ethiopia’s Preparation for Hosting COP32

Addis Ababa, November 23, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, engaging on ways to elevate bilateral cooperation and deepen shared development priorities.

In their discussion, the two leaders explored concrete avenues to expand economic collaboration and advance sustainable infrastructure initiatives that support long-term, inclusive growth. They also reviewed ongoing partnership areas and identified opportunities to broaden cooperation across additional sectors.

Prime Minister Abiy noted that Brazil’s experience as the recent host of COP30 offers valuable guidance for Ethiopia as preparations intensify for COP32. He indicated that Ethiopia intends to draw from Brazil’s practical lessons on coordination, logistics, and diplomatic engagement to deliver a successful, solutions-driven climate summit.

“We plan to consolidate these insights to ensure a well-prepared and impactful hosting that advances global climate action,” the Prime Minister emphasized in a message shared following the meeting.

The meeting took place on the margins of the ongoing G20 Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where heads of state and government and senior officials from the world’s largest economies have gathered to discuss global economic governance, sustainable development, climate and energy, trade and investment, and other pressing international issues.

The summit — the first G20 hosted on African soil — has provided a platform for bilateral engagements and multilateral conversations ahead of major international events, including preparations linked to the upcoming COP32.
