Addis Ababa, November 30, 2025 (FMC) — President Taye Atseke Slassie underscored that prioritizing quality production is essential for laying a solid foundation for Ethiopia’s sustainable development.
He delivered the remarks during the 12th National Ethiopian Quality Award Ceremony held yesterday at the National Palace, attended by Minister of Industry Melaku Alebel, State Minister of Trade and Regional Cooperation Endalew Mekonnen, senior government officials, and invited guests.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Taye highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen quality across all sectors. He said Ethiopia is working to position itself as a global competitor by establishing Africa’s leading quality center — a step aimed at supporting nationwide quality production and elevating the country’s competitiveness.
Quality is no longer a luxury, he stressed, noting that in today’s competitive world it is a determining factor for standing out, gaining recognition, and achieving sustained growth.
According to the President, the awards recognized excellence not only in products and services but also in leadership practices, customer service, and human resource management. He added that the awards also honored organizations for generating employment opportunities, contributing to Ethiopia’s legacy, and meeting consumer needs.
Samuel Kifle, Acting President of Addis Ababa University and Board Chairman of the Ethiopian Quality Award Organization, said competitiveness and institutional sustainability are essential for Ethiopia’s development.
“Competitive organizations are crucial for achieving a higher standard of living and prosperity,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to the organizations and professionals who participated in the competition, CEO of the Ethiopian Quality Award Organization Tewodros Mebrat stated that efforts are underway to improve the international competitiveness of Ethiopian products by fostering a culture of quality.
The winners of the first-class excellence award included Safaricom Ethiopia Telecommunication PLC, Horizon Addis Goma Private Limited, Ethiopian Airlines, and Heineken Brewery. Horizon Addis Goma Private Limited, which has secured the award for three consecutive years, received a special trophy from the President.
