Addis Ababa, November 2, 2026 (FMC) — Mekelle city is moving closer to joining Ethiopia’s nationwide transformation of public service delivery, with preparations underway to launch the MESOB One-Stop Service Centre in the Tigray regional capital.
MESOB Service Chief Executive Officer Yonas Alemayehu disclosed that the necessary preparations had begun to introduce the integrated service centre in Mekelle city, bringing the city closer to a modern system that consolidates government services under one roof through homegrown technology.
He said the nationwide rollout had already established 114 MESOB One-Stop Service Centres, enabling more than 2.7 million citizens to access government services through a more integrated and accessible system.
Preparations are now being expedited to launch the service in Mekelle, where residents are expected to benefit from faster, more efficient and higher-quality public services.
Mekelle Mayor Dr. Shishay Amare said the centre would bring together, organize and modernize services provided by government institutions, helping reduce malpractice and improve public satisfaction.
By consolidating services in one place, the initiative is also expected to cut the time and expenses residents incur when accessing government institutions.
The move marks a significant step in the Tigray Interim Regional Administration’s efforts to advance modern public governance and align service delivery in the region with Ethiopia’s nationwide digital transformation.
The planned centre will extend the reach of the MESOB model to Mekelle, offering residents access to multiple government services through a single, integrated platform.
As part of the preparations, Mayor Shishay appointed Sim’on Tesfamariam as head of Mekelle’s MESOB One-Stop Service Centre, effective October 27, 2026.
The establishment of the centre is expected to strengthen the delivery of efficient, accessible and citizen-focused government services in the city.
