Addis Ababa, January 20, 2026 (FMC) — MIDROC Investment Group is playing a key role in Ethiopia’s “Dine for Generations” tourism development initiative, according to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Jemal Ahmed.
He made the remarks during the official inauguration of the Denbi Eco Lodge in Benchi Sheko Zone of the Southwest Ethiopia People’s Regional State on January 17, 2026, which was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD). Denbi Eco Lodge is the first destination completed under the “Dine for Generations” initiative and spans 36.7 hectares of preserved forest and natural landscape.
Speaking at the event, Jemal Ahmed said that since the reform-oriented government led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power in 2018, a range of policy measures have been introduced, bringing tangible improvements to the Ethiopian economy.
He noted that the Homegrown Economic Reform program has elevated previously underdeveloped sectors, including mining and tourism, into major contributors to national economic growth.
Mr. Jemal further stated that flagship national initiatives spearheaded by the Prime Minister—such as the Green Legacy Initiative, the “Bounty of the Basket” (YeLemat Trufat), and the “Gebeta” (Dine) projects—are producing encouraging results by strengthening the country’s overall economic potential.
According to the CEO, the “Dine for Sheger” project, one of the core components of the Gebeta (Dine) initiative, has helped reposition Addis Ababa as both an attractive investment destination and a welcoming tourism hub for domestic and international visitors.
He added that the government, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has implemented multiple projects to introduce previously untapped tourism destinations and raise public awareness of Ethiopia’s tourism assets.
Jemal Ahmed noted that the broader “Dine for Generations” initiative builds on these earlier efforts and is designed to unlock Ethiopia’s rich and largely untapped tourism potential by developing world-class destinations across the country in an inclusive and sustainable manner, integrating natural beauty, cultural heritage, and modern tourism services.
Recalling MIDROC’s involvement, he said the Investment Group was entrusted with the construction of the Denbi Eco Lodge as part of the “Dine for Generations” projects, in partnership with the government. He added that MIDROC completed the project within the stipulated timeframe, fulfilling the mandate assigned to it.
