Addis Ababa, July 18, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) Chief Commissioner Professor Mesfin Araya said the ongoing National Dialogue has created a platform that enables all sides to fairly engage and reach consensus through mutual understanding.
Briefing the media on the progress of the dialogue, Professor Mesfin said the process differs from conventional political debates, which are often determined by majority decisions. Instead, he said, the National Dialogue is designed as a historic mechanism for achieving shared agreement among participants.
He noted that the platform was established to ensure that all sides have the opportunity to express their views, engage in discussions and work toward fair and inclusive outcomes.
The Chief Commissioner said extensive orientations and briefings have been provided to the nearly 4,000 representatives participating in the process, focusing on the principles of the dialogue, methods of discussion and approaches to decision-making.
He emphasized that the National Dialogue is not intended to produce winners and losers, but rather to help Ethiopians determine a shared future through collective engagement and consensus.
Professor Mesfin said the process serves as a foundation for building a better future for Ethiopia by encouraging dialogue, understanding and cooperation among citizens.
Established in 2021, the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission has been working to address longstanding political differences by bringing together diverse representatives from across the country and creating a platform for inclusive discussions aimed at supporting lasting peace and national consensus.
