Addis Ababa, May 31, 2026 (FMC) — Citizens across Ethiopia’s regional states have expressed growing anticipation and readiness to participate in the 7th general election, as the country moves closer to one of its most significant national voting moments.
Across Oromia Regional State, residents said they are prepared to cast their ballots using voter identification cards issued ahead of the election, emphasizing that voting represents both a civic responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to national development.
In Amhara Regional State, citizens similarly expressed readiness to participate in the electoral process, noting that they are eagerly awaiting polling day to exercise their democratic rights.
In the Central Ethiopia Regional State, residents said they are prepared to take part in the election, highlighting the importance of voting in shaping leadership and strengthening democratic participation.
In Sidama Regional State, citizens said they have made preparations to ensure timely participation in the voting process, stressing that the election represents an important national civic moment.
In the Southwest Ethiopia Peoples’ Region, residents expressed anticipation ahead of the vote, noting that participation in the election is a key civic responsibility.
In Dire Dawa City Administration, citizens, particularly youth and first-time voters, said they are ready to participate in the electoral process, describing the election as a historic opportunity to exercise democratic rights.
In Gambella, Afar, and Somali Regional States, citizens also expressed readiness and anticipation, underscoring the nationwide scale of engagement ahead of the vote.
Across all regions, voters emphasized that participation in the election reflects both constitutional rights and civic responsibility, while also calling for the process to be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
The 7th general election, scheduled for June 1, 2026, is expected to involve more than 54 million registered voters nationwide, making it one of the largest democratic exercises in Ethiopia’s history.
