Addis Ababa, September 9, 2025 (FMC) – The Pakistani Senate has lauded Ethiopia’s successful completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), describing the achievement as a testament to the country’s technical capability and national determination.
The Ethiopian Embassy in Pakistan marked the historic inauguration of the GERD alongside celebrations of the 2018 E.C. New Year’s Eve.
The event was attended by Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Pakistani Senate, who served as the guest of honor.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Gilani commended Ethiopia’s comprehensive accomplishments across various sectors of national development and extended his congratulations to the Ethiopian government and people on the GERD inauguration.
Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Jemal Beker, described the dam as a product of Ethiopia’s unity and perseverance. He emphasized that the GERD stands as a symbol of national cohesion and triumph, conveying his congratulations to the Ethiopian people and government for realizing the monumental project.
