Addis Ababa, January 1, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron today, exchanging warm New Year greetings and discussing ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
During the call, the leaders reviewed existing and prospective areas of cooperation between Ethiopia and France.
“A warm New Year’s exchange with my good friend, President Emmanuel Macron, over the phone earlier today. As we continue to strengthen our relations, we explored our current and future areas of bilateral cooperation, PM Abiy said in a social media post after their engagement over the phone.
They also agreed to maintain regular communication on regional and global issues of mutual interest. “We also agreed to keep each other informed on regional and global matters of mutual interest,” he said.
The conversation reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to enhance diplomatic and strategic ties while coordinating on matters affecting the broader region.
