PM Abiy Ahmed Joins G20 Leaders at Summit in Johannesburg

Addis Ababa, November 22, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed joins G20 leaders at the Summit in Johannesburg this morning. He is attending the gathering alongside his high-level delegation.

The 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit opened on Saturday in Johannesburg with President Cyril Ramaphosa delivering the first address as delegates convened for two days of talks. Held under South Africa’s theme of “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability,” this year’s summit is the first G20 meeting ever hosted on African soil.

Leaders are expected to focus on debt relief for low-income countries, identified as a major obstacle to inclusive growth across the developing world. The agenda also covers climate adaptation, the transition to clean energy, and broader global development priorities.

The summit includes discussions on the bloc’s internal cooperation and long-term strategic direction, with leaders also scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines.
