PM Abiy Ahmed receives leaders of Somalia and Djibouti at Jigjiga Airport

Addis Ababa, January 31, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, and the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, at Jigjiga Airport this morning, his office disclosed.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the Shabelley Resort Project, a major project implemented by his government in the Somali regional state.

The leaders of Somalia and Djibouti together with the Chief of Intelligence of Kenya, are also expected to attend the groundbreaking inauguration ceremony of the Shabelley tourist center near Jigjiga today.

After that, they are scheduled to visit the wind power plant in Ayshaa District in the region.

The Shabelley Resort project is said to be a key site among PM Abiy Ahmed’s ‘Dine For Generations’ flagship initiative. Situated 29 kilometers from Jigjiga City and sprawling across 385 hectares. It is also said to be a critical component of the tourism pillar, aimed at transforming Jijiga City and its surrounding areas into a leading tourism destination.

It has been mentioned that the initiative highlights Ethiopia’s dedication to promoting sustainable tourism and economic development.
