PM Abiy Ahmed sends Ethiopian Christmas greetings, calls for solidarity & national progress

Addis Ababa, January 6, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed extended his Christmas greetings to Ethiopian Christians across the country and abroad ahead of the celebration of Genna tomorrow, January 7.

In his message, the Prime Minister emphasized the spiritual and historical significance of the birth of Jesus Christ, noting that it symbolizes redemption, hope, and the beginning of a new era.

He highlighted that while humanity has faced hardships, the birth of Christ reconciles the past and the future, providing lessons for guiding present actions.

PM Abiy reflected on Ethiopia’s historical legacy, observing that the country’s rich civilizations, empires, and cultural heritage must be sustained through meaningful efforts today.

He said that without diligent action in the present, past achievements lose their value, and the country risks stagnation or decline.

Addressing the current generation, the Prime Minister noted that Ethiopians have endured repeated challenges, including poverty and backwardness, but have also developed the capacity to overcome these obstacles.

He stressed that citizens’ commitment to hard work today is essential for building a prosperous and stable future.

He further noted that Ethiopia’s progress depends on collective action to direct the nation toward positive outcomes, warning that neglect or harmful actions today could jeopardize the country’s tomorrow.

Drawing on historical and spiritual lessons, he urged citizens to focus on constructive efforts, asserting that the nation’s future can be redeemed through deliberate and responsible work in the present.

The Prime Minister framed the holiday message as both a spiritual reflection and a call for national responsibility, linking the celebration of Christ’s birth to the broader pursuit of Ethiopia’s prosperity, unity, and historical dignity.
