PM Abiy Ahmed Stresses Integrated Infrastructure and Tourism Development to Unlock Economic and Cultural Potential

Addis Ababa, July 3, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said he is pleased with the steady progress of the Chano–Chencha Road Project during his continued visit to the Gamo Zone of the South Ethiopia Region.

“The 29-kilometer project, comprising the 22-kilometer Chano–Chencha road and the 7-kilometer Ezo–Gircha branch road, is advancing well, with 13.3 kilometers already completed,” the Prime Minister said in a social media post after his visit to the area.

He noted that once completed, the project will improve connectivity, make travel easier, and support local economic development, adding that he looks forward to its successful completion.

During the visit, the Prime Minister also reviewed the renovated Dorze Lodge, a community-led tourism destination that has been thriving since 2005.

He described the site as being located on a cool mountainous ridge spanning 40,000 square meters, offering panoramic views of Lakes Abaya and Chamo, as well as the natural formation known as God’s Bridge.

“The continued development of road infrastructure alongside tourism sites like Dorze Lodge will help unlock the region’s immense economic and cultural potential,” he said.

The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to citizens, the Ethiopian diaspora, and international visitors to visit and experience the region’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
