Addis Ababa, January 2, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has stressed the essential role of intellectuals in driving Ethiopia’s national prosperity.
The remarks were delivered during a guest lecture titled “The Role of Intellectuals in National Prosperity” at Addis Ababa University, where PM Abiy addressed academic leaders and senior government officials as part of the celebrations marking the university’s 75th anniversary.
Speaking on the qualities and responsibilities of intellectuals, he highlighted their critical contribution to the country’s development through knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
In a post shared on his social media following the lecture, PM Abiy outlined the key characteristics of an intellectual. He noted that intellectuals are respectful of ideas and lovers of knowledge; deep thinkers and persistent questioners; avid readers and alert analysts; and problem-solvers committed to seeking solutions.
Through his lecture, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of intellectual inquiry and critical thinking in shaping policies and driving sustainable development.
