PM Abiy Ahmed to brief parliament on national performance, fiscal execution, and policy directions tomorrow

Addis Ababa, July 6, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is set to appear before the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HoPR) tomorrow, July 7, 2026, to brief lawmakers on the federal government’s overall performance and respond to questions from members of parliament.

The Prime Minister is expected to present the government’s performance report for the 2018 E.C. (2025/26 fiscal year), covering key areas of national activity, including fiscal execution, economic management, political and institutional developments, social sector progress, and diplomatic engagements.

The House will convene its 30th regular sitting of the fifth year of its tenure, during which members of parliament are expected to scrutinize the report, raise questions, and seek clarifications on the implementation of the approved budget and related national policy directions.

In parallel, lawmakers will examine the report and recommendations of the Standing Committee on Planning, Budget and Finance regarding the draft 2019 E.C. (2026/27 fiscal year) federal budget, before proceeding with its approval through a budget proclamation.

The session is also expected to bring together invited guests, including ambassadors accredited to Ethiopia, representatives of international organizations based in the country, religious leaders, and leaders of competitive political parties.

The sitting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the House of Peoples’ Representatives.
